10 years after the rescue operation in the longest cave in the country – “Duhlata”, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has not yet fulfilled the commitment he made in 2010 – to write a law for the protection of caves and a law for the mountain rescue service. This was commented by Atanas Rusev on the social network Facebook, who was leading this almost impossible rescue operation.
We remind you that in 2010 seven people, including 3 children, were trapped in a water trap in the cave, which is 18 km long, and the rescue operation lasted more than 2 days. Although the chances were not on the side of the needy, a happy ending was finally reached. Rusev commented:
“This was the largest rescue operation in a cave in Bulgaria, which in terms of complexity and dangers was not inferior to the operation in Thailand. On the contrary. I was in charge of this almost impossible rescue operation. It may not be known that we spent the first 15 hours of the action as volunteer citizens for the cave rescue, to whom the then Civil Defense refused to provide an excavator three times.”
Rusev added that they themselves hired an excavator that came from Radomir, and with connections they managed to provide a bigger one. He said that the „state“ was completely absent in the first hours of the rescue operation, which were the most important.
“It simply came to our notice then. Unfortunately.”
After the analysis they did, the rescuers found that if they had not carried out the emergency actions they did then, the water would probably have caught people twice. The underground river rose more than 15 meters and rose by 2 cm per minute. Inside the cave the temperature was 12 degrees and the humidity about 40%. Thanks to the round-the-clock work, in the morning the water from the gallery started to drop by 30 centimeters per hour.
The expert reminds that then the Prime Minister Boyko Borissov arrived on the scene, who promised a Law for protection of the caves and a Law for the mountain rescue service. According to Rusev, however, these promises have not been kept.
“It was a lie that has been going on for 10 years now!!!”
“The whole world took part in the action in Thailand. During the action in “Duhlata”, a group of volunteers, experience and luck, managed to bring everything to a happy ending after 48 hours. Thanks to all those who participated and helped. A bow to you!”
Rusev also revealed on the social network that the whole truth about the rescue operation, recreated in a film, is about to come out. The focus will be on the characters of cave “Duhlata”.
