“22 towers located throughout the country monitor for fires and give signals in real time. They are equipped with thermal cameras that detect danger in time and allow teams to be dispatched to the scene as quickly as possible.”

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Eng. Miroslav Marinov, who was visiting Burgas today. He specified that the quick response to a fire in the forest areas is of utmost importance, as usually the fire is very difficult to extinguish after the second hour. For this reason, the forest authorities are equipped with off-road 4×4 vehicles, which are equipped with fire-fighting modules and allow to quickly reach the hard-to-reach areas in the forests.

The construction of the towers in the country will continue according to different programs, and some of the places where they are to be placed have already been selected. The goal is to cover all fire-hazardous areas in the country.

“On the territory of the Regional Directorate of Forests-Burgas, three towers were built last year, but their effect was seen in practice for the first time this summer. Each of them covers an area between 7 and 10 km. One is located near Karnobat, the other near Sveti Vlas, and the third near Sredets in the area of Fakia”, added director of the RDG-Burgas, Mariyan Kostadinov.

The towers were built under the Rural Development Program, and their total value is BGN 950,000. They are placed in areas with a high fire risk, and the locations are chosen to have good visibility and allow monitoring of a large forest area.
