President Rumen Radev has set the date for the elections – March 28, and holding political consultations at the moment is a transfer of responsibility. This was commented by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during the regular briefing on the spread of COVID in Bulgaria. According to him, the dispute between them has long been a neighborhood, not a political one.
„It is entirely in the power of the head of state to determine the elections. I think that after setting the date, to call us for consultations is just to wash his hands.„, Borissov said, recalling how in December Radev publicly announced the date for the March 28 vote. The Prime Minister also commented on the accusations of the Head of State in very close relations with the MRF and warned him not to interfere with ethnic peace.
„Yesterday the flags were consecrated and he spoke out of nowhere about how close I was with Peevski and the MRF. And how I was Erdogan’s protégé. I have been winning my election since those for mayor of Sofia, when I was without a party behind me. I don’t remember Erdogan then, I think he was mayor too. What protégé can I be to him? I urge them not to play with the ethnic card, as well as not to involve the names of foreign presidents… What do I have in common with Peevski? I haven’t seen him for years, it doesn’t make sense. The MRF has supported governance in several areas – the purchase of aircraft, the Euro-Atlantic solution, the Istanbul Convention, and so on. Even in the elections in many places the battle will be between GERB and MRF. It will be uncompromising.“
„They want my resignation and together with the BSP they block the quorum every day.“, Borissov recalled.
The Prime Minister described it as ridiculous to ask doctors for predictions about the situation with the pandemic at the end of March. According to him, there is no expert to say that the pandemic will be over in March.
