Politicians have already doomed specialized justice to destruction, said Evgeni Ivanov, a member of the Supreme Judicial Council. According to him, pre-prepared laws are introduced in each parliament and specialized justice is destroyed. The political assessment is unfair, Ivanov said. Emphasizing that he made a strong impression, he added:
“I think that the special courts and the special prosecutor’s office are on the side of the law. I form my opinion from contact with ordinary people. It strikes them that people share that they see criminal proceedings against the figuratively untouchable, that even these people can be arrested and charged. The most interesting thing is that we saw what property was seized and what property these people have. This is interesting and in the course of the investigation it became public.”
Ivanov said he believed in the judiciary. However, he had doubts that politicians did not want it to work properly. According to him, the Parliament has not elected a member of the prosecutorial board of the SJC for almost 2 years and this hinders the work. However, it is a collective body and all members must participate, he added.
Evgeni Ivanov also commented on the measures set out in the Sustainability and Recovery Plan:
“Some measures I like, others do not. The interesting thing in this case is that these measures have not been discussed before. Typically lately how politicians act, but whatever measures are taken, we will abide by them. The key in this case is that these measures depend on politicians. If politicians have the will and accept these measures, they will be a fact. If they don’t, they won’t be a fact.”
Ivanov called on politicians to take things a little more seriously and do the job for which they were elected.
