The people who supported „We Continue the Change“ in the elections actually voted against the previous government of Boyko Borissov’s model, said political scientist Assoc. Stoycho Stoychev, lecturer at Sofia University. He commented to „BNR“:
„The election results are not a surprise to me. Since the end of 2020, I am of the opinion that the current president is the energy carrier for change in the country and it was only a matter of time before the party form appeared in which to realize the popularity of his prestige.“
According to the political scientist, the low turnout is due to the imposed „digital censorship“ with machine voting. He described as a positive phenomenon taking responsibility for election losses by resigning. Stoychev only hopes that these are not theatrical gestures without consequences because of the party leadership and the possible vote for another leader. He pointed out:
„The Bulgarian voter has not exercised a punitive vote against the protest parties. However, apparently the multi-party system seems strange to him and with the appearance of „We Continue the Change“ many people have directed their expectations and trust towards it. There is a weakening of the authority of systemic political players such as BSP, DSB and others. Bulgarian democracy could lose from a reduction in the number of systemic, non-leader parties.“
According to the associate professor, the young leftists, who are not few, will suffer from this situation.
