COVID measures and high electricity prices have put businesses „on their knees“, said Atanas Dimitrov from the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association. In about 2 weeks, some of our winter resorts will start the new season.
Dimitrov is adamant that the situation in catering and entertainment establishments is extremely dramatic at the moment. He told:
„Businesses are closing down every day, I would say this kind of thing hasn’t been seen since private initiative existed, since the 1990s. A combination of extremely severe factors have combined to negatively impact both public nutrition and tourism in general.„
Dimitrov clarified that the rise in the price of electricity has collapsed 95% of the sector. According to him, the rise in growth of almost everything on the market has had its impact. Then he added:
„Especially on October 24, after the introduction of the Green Certificate, with a 20% vaccinated population, which played a crucial role in closing this business for many people. We were allowed to work de jure, but de facto there is no opportunity to work.„
