Citizens are protesting in front of BNT over the downloading of a film about the massacre of Bulgarians by Yugoslav authorities in northern Macedonia. It is called „Only because they were Bulgarians“ and is a documentary. The tape was supposed to be broadcast last night at 22:00, but it did not happen. For this reason, citizens tonight at 18:00 will express their dissatisfaction in front of the building of the Bulgarian National Television in Sofia.
Iskra.bg managed to contact one of the organizers of the protest, Alexander Alexandrov. He is adamant that the management of „BNT“ has hardly made the decision to shoot the film „Just because they were Bulgarians“. According to him, a government order has been received on this issue. He stressed:
„We want to ask what is the reason for the replacement of this film – is it something related to the Macedonian delegation currently in Bulgaria. Perhaps it will somehow hurt their feelings to see the historical truth about what has happened to our brothers and sisters over the past decades in the former Yugoslavia and how they have been crushed just because they self-determined and insisted that are Bulgarians. In fact, I am very interested in who ordered Mr. Koshlukov to change the program. We can enjoy the economic and all kinds of commitment that Prime Minister Petkov wants to pursue as a new policy towards Northern Macedonia, but if this will be at the expense of historical truth, historical justice for the massacre and repression of Macedonian Bulgarians – no, thank you!“
Alexandrov emphasized that the Macedonian press was already talking about a breakthrough and that, according to them, Bulgaria had begun to soften its position by stopping the broadcasting of such films.
„For me, this is indicative that we are moving towards national betrayal – something that I, as a Bulgarian nationalist and patriot, cannot stand and watch indifferently. That is why we will gather people from different organizations, mostly Bulgarians. I have Macedonian relatives, I have Macedonian roots and I know that millions of Bulgarian citizens carry the same thing in their blood and such a thing is unacceptable and we can not watch indifferently“,he said.
Alexandrov supports the results of the meetings between the Bulgarian and Macedonian sides since the new government came to power, but on the condition that:
„That there should be infrastructure projects, etc. in this segment, I fully approve of what is happening for the simple reason that our neighbors have blocked negotiations after the veto was imposed. In this regard, two-handed admiration. But if this will be at the expense of Bulgarian history and we will legitimize the communist Yugoslav propaganda that is spreading in our neighbor – no, thank you! What I notice is that they are trying to focus on all these other topics, but to keep the historical truth in the background.“
