The National Assembly (NA) gave a mandate to the government „immediately“ to approve the French proposal for the Republic of Northern Macedonia. This is the first step towards lifting the veto and starting the PCM’s negotiations for entry into the European Parliament.
The MPs adopted the French proposal with 170 votes in favor, 37 against and 21 abstentions. The decision passed with the votes of „We continue the change“, „Democratic Bulgaria“, GERB-UDF and MRF. In the BSP, most deputies voted „abstained“, and from „There is such a people“ – all are against.
We remind you that the topic was set as the first item on the agenda of the National Assembly at Friday’s meeting. The consideration and voting of 3 draft decisions submitted by GERB, MRF and Democratic Bulgaria during the past 48 hours, returned deputies to the plenary hall, after the last 2 sittings failed due to lack of quorum.
The draft of „Democratic Bulgaria“ envisages the inclusion of a reference to the bilateral protocols under Art. 12 of the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation in the Negotiating Framework in connection with the adoption of the EU common positions for intergovernmental conferences by the Council of the EU. That is, Bulgaria can directly control the process through participation in the Council, in addition to the guarantees provided by the Negotiating Framework.
The proposal is to be accepted by the Council of Ministers, which will send it to Brussels.
