The member of the public Konstantin Bachiiski was present on October 24 at an open meeting with students at the University of Food Technology – Plovdiv. It was illegally interrupted by the rector of the educational institution – Plamen Mollov.
Bachiiski was invited by the president of the Student Council of the University. The lecture was about the fight against corruption, but at one point it was interrupted by Mollov. He tried to expel the public figure and the persons accompanying him, but it turned out that he did not have such powers. The reason is that the gathering is at the invitation of the University’s Student Council.
All along, Mollov has tried to suggest that Bachiyski is carrying out political propaganda, but this is not true. The rector of the university has invited the students to leave the event. UHT representatives promise Bachiiski that he will be invited to hold the meeting in question after a while.
The public asks the questions:
– What necessitated the rude interruption of his meeting with the students and why was he not allowed to speak to them, especially on such current topics as the fight against corruption?
– Are there reasons for the university’s management, including its rector – Plamen Mollov, to be worried about the topic of fighting corruption?
– Are there other similar cases at the University of Food Technology or is this a precedent?
“We believe that students deserve access to knowledge and accumulated experience, and it is not right for a rector to interfere because of subjective factors, as well as to politicize a topic from which the students only wanted to gain knowledge”, Bachiyski is emphatic.
We remind you that the name of Prof. Plamen Mollov was involved in a bribe he made to the former director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency Hristo Daskalov, related to the work of the „Captain Andreevo“ border crossing. Daskalov himself claimed that Mollov, who is the former head of the Agency, gave him a folder that did not contain documents, but was full of money.
