Residents of Bulgarovo came out today to protest against the heavily polluted air with fine particulate matter. The people are adamant that in recent years they have suffered from various health problems due to pollution.
The procession started at 10:00 a.m. and lasted until 12:00. The locals started from the intersection of Obhodna Street with Stamat Ikonomov Street and reached 1 Obhodna Street. There was a police presence on the spot.
The dissatisfaction of the citizens is due to the inaction of the local government, which in their words neglects the problem. The people pointed out that they have repeatedly submitted signals to them, but so far there has been no adequate reaction from the Municipality of Burgas.
The protest is not aimed at the „Quarry“ in Bulgarovo. The reason is not so much in the truck traffic on Obhodna Street, but the problem is in the deplorable condition of the mentioned street, which from its upper end is completely disturbed asphalt layer and huge pits, and at its lower end the asphalt is repeatedly filled with different fractions, which further increases the level of pollution. Despite long-standing popular dissatisfaction to date, complete infrastructure repairs have not been made to this important thoroughfare.
The main reason for the protest actions of the residents of the city is to remind that they have equal rights as all other citizens of the Municipality of Burgas and deserve normal and modern living conditions.
Their demands are precise and clear:
– We don’t want to breathe dusty air
– We want normal streets with sidewalks and lighting
– Proper conditions for the development of youth activities
– Modern and safe playgrounds.
Local residents are also demanding to be involved in European projects or funding programs to solve the problem of broken streets and polluted air.
