„Bulgarian Rise“ party organized an initiative before the parliament to show that our country is ready for Schengen membership. Citizens gathered in front of the National Assembly in a demonstration under the slogan „I am European, we are Schengen!“.
The day was not chosen by chance. It is precisely today that the Council for Justice and Home Affairs must vote, during which it will be finally clear whether the Netherlands and Austria will block Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen area.
The idea of the event in front of the parliament was to hold a demonstration for the first time in a long time that was „for“ something, not „against“ it. This was explained to journalists by Alexander Nikolov from „Bulgarian Rise“.
He pointed out that this is an event that should only show solidarity, as well as the desire not only of the politicians, but also of the entire Bulgarian society for Schengen membership and for the fact that our country has fulfilled the criteria for it. Nikolov is adamant that the refusal of admission will be unfair to our country and the entire nation.
The deputy is adamant that a refusal will be unmotivated, and the Schengen area itself means free movement and the abolition of border controls. This will be the step that will give overall meaning to our membership in the European Union, and Bulgarian citizens will become equal to all others.
