Caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev commented on the relocation of the Soviet Army monument amid a protest in Sofia. This morning, a human chain was made around the monument, and later the dissatisfied moved in front of the Sofia Municipality building, where members of the local parliament discussed the issue.

The Prime Minister called on politicians to leave the case related to the monument to the Soviet Army for discussion after the early elections on April 2. He stressed that in the midst of the election campaign, it was not right for some people to be opposed to others. On the contrary. Joint solutions must be sought.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that history is a subject we study and he himself remembers our past and events, as well as our heroes. That is why, according to Donev, it would be best to resolve this issue after the vote on April 2. The reason is that then, in a calm atmosphere, it would be best to decide what to do with the Soviet Army monument.

At the same time, the tension of the protest in the capital escalated and the disaffected people began to target the municipality building with eggs and red paint. They are strongly opposed to the idea of moving the monument to the Museum of Art from the socialist period or to another suitable site.

Thus, the chairman of the Metropolitan Municipal Council closed the meeting. The reason for this is that he found out that there are party leaders in front of the municipality, and some of the municipal councilors went down to them, „DarikNews“ reported.

We have yet to find out whether the Metropolitan Municipal Council will make a decision today to instruct Mayor of the municipality, Yordanka Fandakova, to move the Soviet Army monument.
