“I don’t know where President Radev draws these conclusions from. Neither the legislature nor the executive should step outside their powers. On the other hand, the judiciary must ensure credibility for what it does. Events have occurred in the past few months that have brought to light many processes that have further eroded that trust.

This was stated by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov to journalists. Earlier, President Rumen Radev stated that what is happening leads to the suspicion that the political parties want to put their own person in the vacant position of the chief prosecutor.

The Supreme Judicial Council should select the best quality people both in terms of expertise and qualities, he said. He also commented on Radev’s statement regarding the fact that Bulgaria should not help Ukraine with weapons and ammunition. The Prime Minister indicated:

“There is a decision of the National Assembly. In the same speech, as far as I could find out, Radev said that Bulgaria is helping Ukraine, including with weapons. On the one hand we participate, on the other hand we do not participate with projectiles. So let the president clear up this controversy. We must be consistent, abide by the decision of the National Assembly and help Ukraine restore territorial integrity. People die, families and children are displaced. To remind you of the human tragedy, I don’t see how it will end until this war stops in a way that creates lasting peace. It is very easy to say „let’s stop the war and make peace“, but remember that when an unjust peace is made, another war follows. We know this from the example of history after the First World War leading to the Second World War.

“I expect one nomination from GERB-SDS and one from We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria for European Commissioner. The discussion process for the election of regional governors is still ongoing. Personally, I don’t like the quota principle, I think it’s wrong. We are looking for consensus persons as much as possible, commented academician Denkov. He also commented on the problem with the late adoption of the budget:

“The finance minister held a meeting with all the ministries to discuss all the feathers on the budget. Our estimate is that it will go to the Council of Ministers on July 3rd to be adopted by July 31st and come into effect in August. You will see that the total percentage of subsidy and expenditure related to the municipalities has increased by over 24%. There are priorities and quite serious increases in places.
