“We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” stated that they are against the convening of an extraordinary session of the National Assembly on October 27 to discuss the Head of State’s veto on the amendments to the Energy Act. The co-chairman of the parliamentary group Atanas Atanasov revealed their motives:

“This interruption of the work of the National Assembly for the period of the election campaign was at the suggestion of Mr. Boyko Borissov and we accepted as very valid the argument that the parliamentary rostrum should not be used for election campaign speculation. We therefore call on Mr Rosen Zhelyazkov, President of the National Assembly, to schedule an extraordinary sitting. There is no obstacle to this thing happening on the first day after the second round of local elections.”

At the same time, the co-chairman of the PP Kiril Petkov believes that the proposals for amendments to the law on restrictive measures against Russia, which concern Lukoil, are written on the knee and there is a risk of creating a crisis. According to him, at the moment the topic „energy“ presented in such a populist way is a bit of dust in the eyes of the people, and this should not be allowed.

“Actually last night we received the initial texts after yesterday’s meeting and in these texts not even the text on the seven-day derogation was cleared. We cannot now, just because we have elections in a few days, try to knee-jerk write these laws”, he said.

Petkov stressed that there was nothing in these texts for 0.73 cents and pointed out, “I want to say this clearly and yesterday was also somewhat an example of how populism before elections can give wrong information to Bulgarian citizens.” In his words, the proposals, which were submitted by GERB-SDS and DPS, were sent to the energy minister for an expert opinion.
