The editorial office of Iskra.bg received a report from one of our readers, who suggested that the newly built „Arena Burgas“ sports hall is currently being repaired. He had noticed earlier today that there were several people on the roof wearing reflective vests.
Iskra.bg made an attempt to contact the Municipality of Burgas to find out if the roof of the hall is really being repaired, but given the holiday, we could not contact them for a comment on the subject.
The construction of „Arena Burgas“ sports hall is defined by many as criminal. Its construction was delayed, and the sums were constantly increased. Against the background of all this, a few weeks ago a report showed that actually the hall cannot be used for sports competitions and the equipment does not meet the requirements for holding major championships.
Former Minister of Youth and Sports Radostin Vassilev announced that he was submitting a report to the Prosecutor’s Office against the criminal construction of the hall. The report will be against the executive director of „Akademika“, as well as against two former ministers – Krassen Kralev and Vesela Lecheva.
Radostin Vassilev also revealed that there is a report of the Public Financial Inspection Agency (PFIA), which was commissioned by himself as Minister of Youth and Sports. All violations were reflected in this report. According to Vassilev, they are related to „Akademika 2011“, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Municipality of Burgas and the contractor of the site.
According to Vassilev, another 10 million BGN will be needed to make the hall usable.
According to data in the media as of May, when „Arena Burgas“ hall was officially inaugurated, its construction cost BGN 64 million, which is much more than originally planned. The important question is whether there is a warranty on the work done by the construction companies and whether they will cover any repairs if they are needed.
Iskra.bg will continue following the case.
