“Isn’t it strange that a prime minister changes his mind every day and changes ministers every day?”

This is what Head of State Rumen Radev told journalists on the occasion of the proposal of caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev for changes in the executive power. He stressed that when he appointed caretaker governments, the political forces could not think of such interference.

“It was clear about the foreign ministry, but who ordered the change of the agriculture minister”, the head of state asked.

“I will not interfere in the prime minister’s decisions on the composition of the caretaker cabinet, but I will also insist that he keeps his promise that he will propose a cabinet equally distant from all parties. On Friday, I will invite Mr Glavchev to discuss his proposals, which cannot include deputy presidents of political parties”, Radev added on the proposal to put Daniel Mitov in charge of the Foreign Ministry.

According to the President, there are many diplomats who have the qualities to be ministers and a worthy candidate can always be chosen.

It may be recalled that the caretaker Prime Minister proposed the rotation in the ministry a week after he assumed office. This happened through a press release sent minutes before 10:00 pm on Monday. Mitov is currently an MP from the GERB-SDF parliamentary group, as well as the party’s deputy chairman. He was caretaker foreign minister in the Bliznashki government and in the second regular Borissov cabinet.

At the same time, on 9 April Stefan Dimitrov, a career diplomat and ambassador to Montenegro, took over as foreign minister, although the first nomination was Ivaylo Tsenov’s.

On Tuesday, Glavchev asked for Agriculture Minister Kiril Vatev to be replaced by Georgi Tahov. The reason – tension and discontent in the agricultural sector.
