A new controversial appointment was made to the SEPI. This is what Iskra.bg learned from its well-informed sources.
Ivan Valkov, a long-time employee of GERB in Burgas, was appointed one of the deputy directors of the State Enterprise „Port Infrastructure“ /SEPI/.
Who is Ivan Valkov?
Ivan Valkov was for a long time municipal head of GERB in Burgas – since the establishment of the political force. He was also an MP in the 41st and 42nd Parliament. He also occupied the deputy position in the 43rd and 44th National Assemblies. He is considered a specialist in transport and communications.
He also served one term as Chairman and two terms as Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Transport Committee. During all this time, he remained the municipal head of GERB in Burgas.
Ivan Valkov’s name was in the public domain in May 2022, when he was detained in the seaside town. The investigation against him was related to the arson of a car.
Ivan Valkov has not been actively engaged in political activity for some time. He has not been in the public life of the city of Burgas for years. And now he was surprisingly appointed as one of the deputy directors of the SEPI.
In connection with this controversial appointment, the question arose whether it is true that years ago he helped Ivaylo Ivanov and thanks to him he took the post of director of the SEPI-Burgas and then his career developed in a brilliant way, and behind this growth is exactly Ivan Valkov? Moreover, given that some reprehensible appointments have taken place in SEPI, is the enterprise doomed or will the management work for its development? The third important question is in connection with these controversial and, according to some people, even scandalous appointments, what will happen to the state-owned Port of Burgas EAD and will it be destroyed, from which businessmen and oligarchs will benefit? Тhe last important question is what will happen to the General Plan of the city of Burgas and whether some people will fulfill their innermost desire to realize this plan so harmful to Burgas?
Every municipal and state structure is a reflection of the state. The more corrupt the state is and the more the rulers work for their personal rather than public good, the more this is evident in state and municipal institutions. The SEPI is no exception.
