Employees of the Ministry of Interior are on protest alert due to suspicions that the promised salary increase in the sector will not materialize. This was stated by the union organization of the Ministry of Interior, who expressed their dissatisfaction and warned of potential blockades.

„There is great uncertainty whether the promised increase will be implemented. This is a serious issue that could lead to mass protests,“, said Iliya Kuzmanov, chairman of the Trade Union Federation of Interior Ministry Employees / TUFME/.

The new wage formula

According to the new formula that has been discussed, the lowest salary in the Interior Ministry should be around BGN 2,000, Kuzmanov explained.

“Higher education professionals in the sector will earn salaries that are 20% above the national average salary. This means between BGN 2300 and BGN 2400,”, he added.

Currently, the minimum salary for an employee with police powers is BGN1466, which Kuzmanov described as “unacceptable given the increasing security challenges in the country.”

Political instability and migrant crisis

In the context of the growing threats, the unions stressed that the work of police officers is critical to ensuring public safety.

„We expect a migrant crisis and there is political instability in our country. If someone thinks that the security of the country can be ensured by employees with a salary of BGN 1,400, I assure you they are deeply mistaken,“, Kuzmanov stated firmly.

According to him, under the current conditions it is difficult to motivate and retain qualified personnel in the Interior Ministry system, which could have serious consequences for the country’s security.
