At 18:00 tomorrow in the large hall of the People’s Community Centre „Atanas Manchev 1920“ in Kableshkovo a meeting will be held to discuss an investment plan for a stone quarry in the section „Malka Biberna – South“, located on the land of the town.
On 16 October, Pomorie Municipality received an official letter from the Minister of Energy, Vladimir Malinov, stating that the Malka Biberna – South section is the subject of a private interest, whose wish is to concession the existing deposit there for the extraction of underground resources /construction materials/. The area claimed by the private company is nearly 380 hectares and is located in close proximity to the residential area in Kableshkovo and to the main water pipeline to the resort. „Sunny Beach“. In his letter, the Minister asks for a coordinated opinion under the Subsoil Resources Act.
On 28 October it became clear that the Mayor of Pomorie Municipality Ivan Alexiev is categorically opposed to opening concession proceedings. According to him, carrying out mining activities would pose a danger to local residents, as the investment plan for a stone quarry affects an area 400 metres away from the town’s regulatory boundaries.
The mayor of Kableshkovo, Ivaylo Ivanov, is of a different opinion. Iskra.bg asked him for a brief comment and he shared his concerns:
„I exclude the thunderstorms that will happen, but half of the houses of the residents of Kableshkovo may fall because the section is very close to the settlement, 300 meters away. On the lower side runs the supply pipeline of the water supply to the resort. „Sunny Beach“. If something happens, the resort could be left without water, God forbid it should be in the summer season, but not in it – there are permanent residents there.“
During the meeting tomorrow a petition will be initiated. The Town Manager is confident that they will be able to get as many signatures as possible in a short period of time. Tomorrow the locations where the petition will be placed will be announced. Ivanov hopes that by Sunday they will be able to collect 2000 signatures, which will be immediately sent to Energy Minister Malinov.
If the signatures are not accepted, a local referendum will be requested with two questions – „For“ or „Against“ the concession of the Malka Biberna – South section under the Subsoil Resources Act.
Mayor Ivaylo Ivanov recalled that this is not the first time there are investment appetites for this section and so far they have managed not to interfere with the citizens, but since it already came from the Ministry of Energy, it could not do without the participation of local residents.
All interested persons are invited to the meeting where they will be able to ask their questions and express their position. The discussion will be attended by the mayors of Pomorie Ivan Alexiev and of Kableshkovo Ivaylo Ivanov.
