The presence of antibodies is not sufficient to diagnose sheep plague. This is what the analyst Ilian Vassilev says in his comment on the issue on the social network Facebook. He stressed that the decision whether to declare plague in the country is up to the institutions and doctors. And more:
“According to the website agro.bg, more than 30 thousand animals have been euthanized in Greece after the discovery of the PPR plague. According to the original publications in the Greek agromedia – the animals are that many but include the name smallpox, not just plague /general PPR/. Moreover, the amount of sheep and goats in Greece is tens of times higher than Bulgaria. The figure they quote is not to be believed.
Regarding laboratories and so called certification.
The decision whether or not to declare that there is a plague in our country is up to the institutions and the doctors, and for that there must necessarily be a pronounced clinical picture. Only by the results – a quarantine is put in place and surveillance is established. Because the level of antibodies is not sufficient reason to believe that it is a sick animal. Given that the mortality rate in plague is huge – the owners themselves have an interest to finish sooner, to process everything and start again. But when they see that their animals are healthy? That’s why it’s important to clean things up. And if something in the EU regulations needs to change, we need to act.
Secondly about the labs – why are they giving ‘different’ results? Separately for reference and accredited labs – long topic. Basically – plague testing has three elements – machines, reagents and procedures – Elisa and PCR. Each of these elements must be authorised by the company that has developed the methods, machines and manufactures the reagents. We have already gone through this whole subject during the Covida.
I have not seen the BG laboratory, which, according to the BDA, tested the samples, show this accreditation and certificates – for machines, reagents and procedures. They must have them, but why don’t they show them? They do not show the results of the samples publicly either.
Some deputy minister challenged the competence of the Greek laboratory in the media because he had seen a document from them. But nobody has seen a document from the Greek laboratory. And the deputy minister is hanging on as a credibility with scary force.
After the superior court ruling in the Annie and the sheep case that there was no plague, then there were also „indisputable“ results from the bg labs. The investigation of Genka Shikerova about the games for the rendering plants with the fictitious numbers of euthanized animals in order to steal EU money also came out. Same with the reference lab in Montpellier /which is the basis of the current suspicions about contamination of samples – intentional or not. The BDA needs to be re-established and the Minister and Deputy Minister need to go. The BDA is an important institution and it needs to regain its credibility because tomorrow we could actually have a disease problem and because of mistrust we may not react. Even now, it seems that BABA and the ministry are between a hammer – the reaction of the Commission – and an anvil – the discontent of the people.
And why are they not vaccinating the animals is a separate issue? But scary.
A friend of mine pointed out the reasons – money and corruption. All along the chain. X amount of money from the national program per euthanized animal – between 300 and 500 euros, less than 50 percent reaches the owners. In addition they import from outside because our meat is „contaminated“ and cannot sell. And according to the Greeks, the infection came from Romania.
The whole country is riddled with corruption. And you are telling me that we should look for a formula of a regular government with the same people who are symbols of corruption? Who even now have appointed a Minister of Agriculture, heads of the BWA and are running this whole web of dependencies? Because Resurgence was going to come to power? On the contrary, Revival will come to power because it is a project with an anti-corruption facade of the same corrupt elite to prevent the real anti-corruptionists from getting a chance to clean up the country.”
