A few minutes ago, consultations began with President Rumen Radev, who, according to protocol, first spoke with representatives of GERB-UDF.
„Your results in the recent parliamentary elections have granted you the status of the leading political force, but they have also burdened you with the greatest responsibility for forming a government,“, President Radev addressed Boyko Borissov.
The President emphasized that forming a regular government is a very difficult task in a highly fragmented parliament. At the same time, Radev expressed satisfaction that the Speaker of the 51st National Assembly had already been elected, allowing the deputies to begin their work in earnest. According to Radev, GERB-UDF made a significant contribution to unraveling this knot by withdrawing the candidacy of Raya Nazaryan for the Speaker of Parliament.
„This has also made it possible for the consultations to begin, and after that, I will present you with the first exploratory term. How do you see the chances of forming a government?“, President Radev further addressed Borissov.
For his part, the leader of GERB stated that political egos had turned out to be a major problem in Bulgaria. He emphasized that they supported the BSP candidate for speaker of Parliament, despite a decision by the party congress not to work with the left-wing.
According to Borissov, a budget without a regular government would lead to the same situation we are seeing now, with new deficits arising and no measures being taken to overcome them. Therefore, this week they would do everything possible to convince their colleagues in Parliament that Bulgaria needs a regular government.
The President once again addressed Borissov with a question, asking when it would be best to present GERB-UDF with the first term to form a government. In response, he pointed out that if there is no agreement this week, there will be none the following week either. Therefore, the term is expected to be handed over in about 7 days.
