Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev sharply criticized the MPs for the delay in approving the 2025 Budget. He stressed that the government has fulfilled its part, but the National Assembly has not yet taken the necessary actions.
„We submitted the budget in accordance with the Public Finance Act on the last day of 2024. From then on, the MPs had the opportunity to approve, amend, or even reject it. But instead, they went on vacation,“, Glavchev said to journalists. The Prime Minister insisted that the National Assembly should approve the budget before the next parliamentary break.
„I want the MPs to return to their work and vote on the budget. Only then will Bulgarian citizens be able to receive the increased incomes that are planned in it.“
Glavchev reminded that the government has introduced a special law that regulates the collection of revenues and the spending of funds:
„We have done our best to ensure that revenue and expenditure are met. The responsibility now lies with the National Assembly.“
The Prime Minister also commented on the calls for the withdrawal of the budget submitted by the interim government.
„The only circumstance under which we would withdraw the budget is if it exceeds the 3% deficit limit, which would jeopardize our candidacy for the Eurozone,“, he stated firmly. Glavchev emphasized the importance of maintaining fiscal discipline:
„Adopting this budget is not only an economic priority but also a signal to our European partners that Bulgaria adheres to the principles of financial stability.“
The Prime Minister concluded with an appeal to the MPs:
„It is time to show responsibility towards the Bulgarian citizens. We adopted a budget with a clear goal – to ensure stability and development for our country. Now it is Parliament’s turn to act.“
Citizens expect the National Assembly to take a step forward and approve the 2025 budget, which will guarantee economic stability and income growth.
Huge growth of the working poor in our country! How many people are working but have no money?
