Prime Minister Boyko Borisov gave details of the decisions that were taken yesterday at the online meeting of the European Council. He announced that one of them was to support research, with 140 million euros being allocated for 17 projects, including the development of vaccines.

In addition, European leaders have asked the European Commission to speed up work on the provision of medical equipment, which the Bulgarian prime minister identified as the most pressing issue. He confirmed that Bulgaria will demand from the common European order 1 million tests for Covid-19. 600,000 of them are from PCR tests and 400,000 are from so-called rapid tests. The latter will be used to detect whether humans have antibodies in place.

The head of the National Operational Headquarters, Prof. Ventsislav Mutafchiiski, announced that 300,000 tests per month are expected to be done, which will cost the state BGN 10,000 million a month.

In addition to the tests, Bulgaria has negotiated the delivery of 1 million protective masks and an additional 50 respirators.

Borisov also said that the issue of citizens who are blocked in third countries was also discussed yesterday at the European Council. It was decided to take on the EU foreign policy chief, so that these people could return to their home countries.

The Prime Minister also announced that the EU will urgently certify protective clothing, whose production has already started in our country.

“We will do a favor to our factories. If they find a fabric because we weave it, we have a huge opportunity to sew clothes”, Borisov commented.

He said the glory of native production had spread through the ambassadors.
