“At this stage, it is too early to reopen nurseries and kindergartens,” announced Bulgaria’s Minister of Health Kiryl Ananiev during the regular virus briefing of the governmental crisis response group National Operations Headquarters.
“Each next step we take towards loosening the restrictions in the country is based on the experience and results we have achieved so far. I can reassure you that the government is currently working together with the National Operations Headquarters on planning out the steps to come. For now, however, we believe that it is too early to reopen nurseries and kindergartens despite that many European countries already did so. We expect this to happen in the near future but for now we need to confirm that the situation in the country remains stable and there is no risk of coronavirus resurgence. When it comes down to the safety of our children there is no need for rushed decisions and unnecessary risks.”
One of Minister Ananiev’s main concerns is the large size of the kindergarten classes as they often exceed 30 children.
“Keeping so many children tightly grouped together and then sending them back home to their parents drastically increases the risks of contracting the virus. And the risk is not just for the children but for the entire families,” warned Minster Anakiev.
