The secretary of Bulgarian National Headquarters Assoc. Prof. Dimo Dimov announced 23 new COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria over the past 24 hours. According to Prof. Dimov 982 people have been tested for the new coronavirus since yesterday raising the total number of tests conducted to 48,618 or 6,945 tests per 1 million of the population.
Ten of the new COVID-19 patients are admitted for hospital treatment. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria reached 1,611.
There are 9 active regions in the country. There are 6 new cases in Sofia, in Vidin there are 8, in Sliven 3, and single cases are established in Blagoevgrad, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Pleven, Stara Zagora, and Yambol respectively.
Two children at age of 10 and 11 have contracted the new coronavirus in Vidin.
Two new infections among medical workers are registered in the hospital of “Pirogov”.
Twenty-one patients have fully recovered over the past 24 hours.
There are 3 new COVID-19 related deaths. One is of a 68-years-old man from the multidisciplinary hospital for active treatment in Blagoevgrad who was suffering from preexisting heart and respiratory failure. Another man at the age of 80 years suffering from ischemic heart disease and chronic heart failure passed away in the regional hospital of Vidin. The third case is of an 82-years-old woman from Pleven suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic heart failure, and had also had a heart attack.
Another medic lost his life to the new coronavirus. He worked in the Emergency Medical Center of “Alexandrovska” hospital and was initially successfully treated for the respiratory disease and discharged after giving negative test results for COVID-19. He was then later admitted for hospital treatment in critical condition and eventually lost the battle against the virus.
