Heating and hot water will fall in price by an average of 14% from July 1. Electricity will be about 0.5 percent lower. This was announced by the Chairman of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) Ivan Ivanov.

Earlier in Gabrovo, Prime Minister Boiko Borisov threatened to change the composition of the EWRC because of the forecast for a rise in heating prices. The Prime Minister stressed that the mandate of the regulator has expired and he would talk to his colleagues about a new leadership. Borisov thus expressed his indignation at the fact that the price of natural gas has been reduced by 42% retrospectively, while at the same time higher prices are planned for consumers.

It turned out that there will be no price increase, but a decrease. The price for Pleven and Sofia will decrease by 15%. About 13 percent will be in Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vratsa and Razgrad, News.bg reported.

On June 10, EWRC will decide on the price reduction from August 5, 2019 to March 31, 2020. Consumers’ money will be refunded with balancing accounts.

Ivanov also commented on Borisov’s words, saying that his term had expired on 2 paril. The same applies to some of the EWRC members. However, they had the right to perform their duties until a new leadership was appointed.

According to Ivanov, in the last 5 years the Commission has complied with the laws of the country and all decisions have been made in the public interest.

As for whether the heating can not be cheaper by more than 15%, Ivanov explained that the EWRC was obliged to take into account that these are cold months in which the consumption of natural gas was rising and this led to more high demand and appreciation.
