GERB MPs will adopt only those texts in the Biodiversity Act that comply with European legislation. They will propose amendments banning constructionat at a distance less than 100 meters from the Black Sea coast. This was promised during a press conference by the Chairman of the Environment and Water Commission Ivelina Vasileva. She also announced that the Prime Minister had ordered her to start consultations with the European Commission on the changes in the law.

The proposals of Valery Simeonov and a group of MPs, which were submitted between the first and second reading of the bill, will definitely not be supported.

The amendments adopted at first reading about 2 months ago will allow the government to change „Natura 2000“ sites without taking into account scientific information. The project was supported by the investigated former Minister of Ecology Neno Dimov last year and resumed by the current Minister Emil Dimitrov in February this year. On Wednesday Dimitrov commented that he was not interested in what changes were being made to the law after it was issued by the Council of Ministers, “Dnevnik” informed.

Vasileva added that the consultations will take the form of a preliminary procedure for harmonizing the texts of the bill with the requirements of European legislation. Restrictions on offshore construction will be introduced with amendments to the Black Sea Coast Act. A total ban on construction will be required in the so-called zone A – the 100-meter zone adjacent to the Black Sea coast. It remains to be seen what will be done with the construction in the existing situation, such as the retaining wall in Alepu, which is suspected to become a hotel.
