Rumen Radev: The violation of the law by the Prosecutor General undermines the foundations of the rule of law

President Rumen Radev accused Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev of systematically violating the law and the public interest. According to the head of state, he strives to protect the government at all costs. And certain oligarchs. This happens by attacking the uncomfortable. In this way, however, it undermines the rule of law. According to Radev, this requires a reaction from the entire justice system.

In Veliko Tarnovo, the head of state said he believed that with joint efforts, prosecutors in Bulgaria would be given a real chance to start a real fight against corruption and in defense of the rule of law.

Radev also commented on the report of the European Commission, which criticized our country. According to the president, it identifies problems that have been obvious to Bulgarians for many years.

The head of state stressed that when it comes to the report, it should be borne in mind that through it the European Union is critical of itself, because it is a recognition of a long-standing failure in the fight against corruption.

Radev also said that the continuation of the Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification is proof that the actions of the government in Sofia do not receive European indulgence. According to him, this is happening precisely because of the failure in the fight against corruption.

The President again expressed support for the Bulgarian citizens who have been protesting for 85 days now. He stressed that they have stopped waiting for decisions from outside to tackle the corruption of the ruling party and are fighting to get their country back.
