After a four-hour debate and scandals, a Commission was set up in Parliament to examine the requests for lifting the immunities of four MPs. Among them are former prime ministers Boyko Borissov and Kiril Petkov. The Commission was supposed to include two MPs from all forces in Parliament, but the BSP and „There Is Such a People“ /TISP/ refused to participate in it.

In the absence of Borissov, but in the presence of Petkov, a scandal took shape in the plenary hall about whether or not there would be a commission to deal with the immunities of the two leaders and other MPs. Members of „We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria“ asked why immunities are now demanded.

„Suddenly, someone thought that maybe someone had committed some crime. Neither the political class should become a hostage of the state prosecution, nor the state prosecution a hostage of the political class,“, Miroslav Ivanov declared. A wave of criticism followed.

„This commission is humiliating for the Bulgarian parliament and proves several things. The first is that Kiril Petkov and the other immunity man – Boyko Borissov, who is not there, probably feel guilty. If they weren’t, they would go to court and prove their innocence. Both Borissov and Petkov showed that they are absolute cowards. They are not men,“, Toshko Yordanov from TISP said from the rostrum. Independent MP Radostin Vasilev stated:

„Most likely you will make a forensic laboratory in parliament, which will do DNA tests to find out if the child of the lady from Dubai is Boyko Borissov’s. Colleagues, this is a huge shame. You are starting a procedure by which you will „wash“ Borissov. He is afraid to give up his immunity.“

The tension did not subside and the BSP personally addressed Kiril Petkov:

„Mr. Petkov, what do you do in this company? What needs to be investigated about your declaration? The whole country knows about it. Submit your immunity.“

„I will voluntarily give my immunity and I will not wait for the end of the Commission. But I will not allow the Prosecutor’s Office to use its power as a political club. As for the insecure TISP MPs who are full of hatred, I will not comment,“, Kiril Petkov said from the rostrum.

So far, the immunities of a total of 7 MPs have been requested in the 49th Parliament.
