A second explosive device was found on the route where the motorcade of Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev was supposed to pass on its way to Turkey. At the moment there is no more information about it.
At the same time, Geshev’s first comment after the explosion was to „Epicenter“, namely:
„Thank God I changed cars at the last minute. Thank God they didn’t kill a man! I’m worried about the kids, they got very scared.“
Earlier today, Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior, Chief Commissioner Petar Todorov, revealed from Burgas that the explosion in front of the Prosecutor General’s motorcade on the road between Sofia and Samokov happened around 11:45. He was travelling with his wife and their two daughters. There were no injuries.
Tomorrow, Caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev will hold a meeting with the services of the Ministry of the Interior. There, the information will be summarized and appropriate actions will be taken. The Ministry of the Interior will carry out all orders that the prosecution will give in the course of the investigation.
At the same time, Director of the National Investigation Service and Deputy Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov commented to journalists that the purpose of the bomb was to kill. The pillar of fire that erupted was 4-5 meters high. According to Sarafov, a crater with a depth of 30-40 cm and a diameter of nearly 3 meters was found on the spot. The explosion was clearly aimed at the road and the passing cars, he said and added that the bomb had a large TNT equivalent – about 3 kg of TNT, according to the initial opinion of the experts.
„Obviously, the explosive device was intended to kill, it was not for the purpose of intimidation, it was not fireworks, an extremely strong explosion, including shrapnel,“, Sarafov said adamantly, explaining that metal balls the size of a human fingernail were found.
Markers left by the perpetrators were found at the scene.
„A professionally prepared attempt and well executed. Only one coincidence saved both the prosecutor general and his family,“, Sarafov pointed out.
