An interim committee will monitor how public resources are spent on the COVID crisis. It was established today by the parliament, and its representative will be Yordan Tsonev from DPS party.
The Commission will meet during the emergency measures related to the spread of coronavirus in our country. It will be composed of 10 MPs, who are distributed on an equal footing – 2 from each parliamentary group. Their task will be to monitor how public resources are spent in order to limit the new coronavirus, as well as to eliminate the negative economic consequences of it.
The BSP proposed the establishment of the Commission. Social leader Cornelia Ninova argues the need for control and transparency while spending budget funds. The Reds proposed that MP Prof. Rumen Gechev take the helm, but his nomination was not approved by a majority.
GERB also approved the establishment of the Commission, but it should be headed by an opposition MP. Alexander Nenkov explained that the motives for this are – not because they do not respect Prof. Gechev, but because they believe that the purpose of the Commission is different.
In the end the Commission will have to report on all expenditure incurred by the State and analyse its effectiveness. The MPs in its composition will also have to monitor the funds spent on funds or other financial instruments of the European Union.
