An ATM located in the center of Razgrad has issued larger amounts of money than those requested for withdrawal. This happened in the summer of 2019. According to security camera recordings, the Prosecutor’s Office was able to identify the people who withdrew money, and some of them – several times. Razgrad District Prosecutor Tihomir Todorov called on them to return the overpaid money and gave them a month to do so. The aim is to avoid severe court proceedings and severe penalties, “NOVA” informed.
Todorov explained that the ATM was refilled at the particular bank in July 2019. The bank called the people who had withdrawn money illegally. According to him, there are already people who have repaid what is due, but also those who did not want to return the money. They were named in a signal to the Economic Police.
The Prosecutor specified that when BGN 100 was requested, the ATM could not recognize the denomination and instead of issuing 5 banknotes of BGN 20, it gave 5 banknotes of BGN 50. According to him, the ATM is technically operational, but the employees who loaded it showed carelessness by changing the places of the cassettes of the BGN 20 and BGN 50 banknotes. The total amount that was withdrawn was quite large, Todorov added.
„The important fact is that people have different readings of the situation. Some are angry that they did not find out about this ATM earlier, while others have returned the entire amount.”
About 18 people have returned to withdraw money several times. The problem was identified by an employee of another bank who used the ATM in question. She warned the management of the institution about the situation.
