Exactly 10 years after Konstantin Bachiyski’s first won battle against corruption, the candidate for a second term in the National Assembly as a MP from „We Continue the Change” political party already has dozens of successfully completed cases.
Already in his first term as a municipal councilor, Bachiyski blocked an attempt by the local parliament in Burgas to allow the granting of a concession for 35 years on nearly 30,000m2 of the „Lake“ Park to a supposedly „powerful“ English company with 40 years of experience in the construction of amusement parks, and subsequently turned out to be a shell company.
„I read the report and did my own research. It turned out that the supposedly big company was actually a „mailbox“ type company. Registered in a ramshackle house without a gram of turnover for the last five years. There was a lot of pushback from the local government. But the truth came out and won. To this day, the beautiful part of the park has not been destroyed and the municipal property has not been handed over to an „imaginary“ investor.“ For me, this was the first signal that I should be very attentive to the proposals that come to the Municipal Council and not to forget the responsibility that the citizens of Burgas voted for me. During the next three terms, I had to enter into even more heated battles with the local government and people from the shadows in order to protect the public interest,„, Konstantin Bachiyski explained.
Since then, for three terms, during which Bachiyski has donated his entire salary to an advisor for health care in Burgas, the cases of successful battles with corruption, which he recorded in favor of the public interest, are dozens. He opposed the illegal sale without tender and competition of the municipal hospital in „Meden Rudnik“ at a price BGN 1.5 million below the tax assessment. Twice prevented the increase in the household waste fee for citizens and fought for a 40% reduction in the „garbage“ fee, which saved local businesses over BGN 35 million in recent years.
In 2020, he turned a regional problem into a national one – the transfer of municipal and state property to Ahmed Dogan’s barns in „Rosenets“ Park into private hands. The result of his resistance against corruption caused a tsunami of reactions and the most massive protests in the country for the last ten years.
As a MP and member of the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Burgas public figure played a key role in removing the illegal monopoly of the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint and returning state control over the quality of imported food.
„The corruption schemes may be big, the participants in them may change, the people in power may change, but the cause for me is the same. I’m the same. My belief that I must protect the public interest is the same as my belief that however deep the roots of corruption are, they can be eradicated. For the next parliament, I am also prepared with a detailed project against corruption in Bulgaria and I will make it prohibitively expensive for the corrupt,„, Leader of the list of „We Continue the Change“ confirmed.
After years of winning impossible battles, hardly anyone doubts that he lacks the tenacity to achieve it.
