Sanitary cordons are a completely valid political logic. This was written in a comment on the social media platform Facebook by Blagoslav Mihaylov. However, he emphasized that when you try to isolate everyone, you end up being the one who is isolated. Here’s why:

„On the issue of „sanitary cordons“, this is a perfectly valid political logic, which I accept and agree with. But there is a very significant problem. Some people go too far and want to make a cordon around everyone. But if you decide to create a sanitary border around everyone, then you are effectively creating a sanitary cordon around YOURSELF.

If you want to isolate everyone, then you end up being the one who is isolated. And that’s not okay, because Bulgaria is a parliamentary republic, which means that if you want to reduce the influence of a particular group (and politics is always about the redistribution of influence), you need to gather a strong enough coalition. This is a very basic logic, which I think even children in kindergarten will be able to understand.

„If you decide that the biggest villain is Peevski, then you team up with anyone who is not Peevski (and he has enough enemies, as well as people who probably dream of breaking free from his influence), and together you fight against him. After all, he only has 30 MPs, while the remaining 210 MPs are more than a constitutional majority. Even GERB, which is the largest political force, only has 69 against 171.

So, mathematically speaking, it is possible. Even the strongest can be brought down by all the others if they are united enough. And before you think that everyone is controlled by Peevski… these people will quickly change their loyalty when they see where things are heading. How many people betrayed Dogan when they saw that a new beginning was coming? The same will happen to Peevski one day.

Yes, but… these are thugs, those are puppets, others are fans of chalga music, and some are communists… yes, okay, everyone is bad, everyone is a scoundrel. This has been clear for 130 years. People have been suffering a lot. If you want to achieve SOMETHING, you have to work with other people. That’s just how the world works. You may not like your boss, or co-workers, or customers, or whoever, but when there is mutual interest, people compromise. Literally, the entire world is based on this.

The only choice you have in a parliamentary democracy is to seek coalitions. If you don’t want to seek coalitions, then what? If you don’t want to do it democratically through the parliament, the other way is by force – to start planning an armed coup or a revolution. But since we are democrats, this option certainly doesn’t work for us.

Well, then you do what you have to do! Today you ally with “Vazrazhdane” against Peevski, tomorrow you ally with GERB against “Vazrazhdane”. Yes, it may not seem very „principled“, but at least it makes more sense than sitting around and complaining.

Bulgarian lives and dies complaining, instead of doing something about it. And we’d better do something about it soon, because when the president comes, he will play the game with all of you.“
