“COVID-19 ruined the world – it killed many, ruined the economy and choked the financial markets,” said PM Boyko Borissov during a visit to Varna where he met the city Mayor Ivan Portnich. According to Borissov, before the virus, the economy was headed towards 130 billion lev which would have been enough money for everything.”
Borissov added that the European Union expects city trains to be introduced in all major Bulgarian cities with Varna and Burgas already planning the new infrastructure. He used the occasion to stress that if it wasn’t for the efforts of his office, freeway “Hemus” couldn’t have been completed in the next 50 years.
“The highway is being constructed at maximum pace. Soon, I’ll be visiting the construction sight of the section between Boaza and Pleven. Yesterday, all construction works at the section between Botevgrad and Mezdra were fully resumed. After that, we are moving towards the section on both sides of Veliko Turnovo. All works continue at full speed. We will deliver everything we promised on time, and so far we are moving according to plan. Yesterday, we also started constructing the two highway lots in Northwest Bulgaria. Every 70-80 km there are construction machines working. The section between Turgovishte and Shumen is also being built as we speak. Despite the virus, we didn’t stop the construction business”, commented the PM, adding:
“Romania is still not ready to open its borders yet. Bulgaria and Serbia already did so. I had a meeting with PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis and we came to an agreement that will come into power on June 15. Everything is going according to plan. Border checkpoints “Kulata” and “Kalotina” are being reconstructed as well. We haven’t’ stopped anything“.
Prime Minister Borissov added that the coronavirus will not lead to any delays in the process of entering the Eurozone.
