“I will respond to the invitation of the next Prosecutor General!”
This was stated by Minister of Interior Boyko Rashkov in response to „bTV“ whether he will accept the invitation for a working meeting, which Geshev sent him yesterday. The minister added that the wiretapping investigation continues despite attempts by the Prosecutor’s Office to sabotage it.
We remind you that the invitation for a working meeting by Ivan Geshev came against the background of strained relations between the institutions. An operation of the Prosecutor’s office in the Interior Ministry is underway, and a senior police officer has been charged with money laundering and antiquities trafficking, while the caretaker government has accused the Prosecutor’s Office of trying to interfere in the executive branch, including by summoning service chiefs. Yesterday Geshev met with the new chairman of the State Agency for National Security Plamen Tonchev and Head of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime Kalin Stoyanov.
Minutes before the meetings of the Prosecutor General, the spokesman of the Council of Ministers Anton Kutev commented that Tonchev had been summoned for questioning the day after his appointment and pointed out that the Prosecutor’s Office was interfering in the executive branch.
At the same time, there were protests in front of the Judicial Chamber throughout the day yesterday, organized by various formations, demanding the resignation of the Prosecutor General.
