“Bulgarian Socialist Party will submit to the parliament a draft decision to remove the immunity of former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov”, said the leader of the party, Kornelia Ninova. She explained that today the deputies from the party will get acquainted with the materials submitted by the chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev. She said:

“Since they don’t do anything, since he doesn’t have the courage to give it himself, the speaker of the parliament and the majority kick the ball and hide it, we take the initiative.”

Geshev insists that Borisov part with his immunity because of the „Barcelonagate“ investigation. The prosecutor’s office hinted that the GERB leader would probably be charged with money laundering.

Borisov’s party responded that they would vote against any request for immunity, because they believe that the prosecutor’s office is acting repressively. The majority of GERB and PP-DB could reject the proposal to remove immunity. Regarding Kiril Petkov, there is the same request, but for another investigation – the declaration of his citizenship. Both cases are archival. In the Petkov case, even the prosecutor’s office ruled that there was no evidence of a crime being committed. But now he has a different opinion.

Barcelonagate“ has been in the public domain for at least 5 years. So far, this has made no impression on investigators, and the attorney general has sidestepped the issue. It was only after GERB demanded his resignation that Geshev took action for this investigation, and the prosecutor’s office quickly sped up.
