“Transport connectivity between Varna and Burgas is important for all Black Sea municipalities, but our city is most in need of being better connected to the rest of the country.”

This is what Mayor Blagomir Kotsev commented. In his words, the idea of a motorway or expressway between the two largest coastal cities has long been on the agenda for the municipalities, but the time is ripe for them to join forces and push the state for its implementation. The issue has been discussed with Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, with whom they agree that the construction of a highway or expressway is of key importance for the development of the two cities and the municipalities between them.

According to Mayor Kotsev, all municipalities interested in this connectivity need to categorically declare their will to build modern road infrastructure to the state institutions. These are not only the big cities such as Varna and Burgas, but also the smaller municipalities of Avren, Dolni Chiflik, Byala, Nessebar and Pomorie.

The development of the entire Black Sea region depends on the availability of a modern transport link between Varna and Burgas, Mayor Kotsev stressed. Its construction will drastically improve tourism, industry and trade, while its lack makes it difficult to establish economic zones around the big cities and hinders the attraction of investments.

In his opinion, the most important in this case is the will of the state, as the construction of a road between municipalities is its prerogative. In this regard, Mayor Kotsev expressed hope that Bulgaria will have a stable regular government after the June 9 elections, as the economic benefits of transport connectivity between Varna and Burgas is undeniable for the whole country. We must not allow the instability in Sofia to negatively affect the nearly one million population of the Black Sea municipalities, the mayor of the seaside capital said. He gave examples of Crete and Croatia, where major coastal cities are connected by motorways and added that Bulgaria should not lag behind other countries in this respect.
