Many residents of the buildings located on Burgas streets Tsar Kaloyan, Tsarigradska, and Ivaylo, as well as the vendors from Krasnodar Market, are strongly opposed to one of the projects for constructing a multi-story parking lot in the „Vazrazhdane“ residential complex.
The issue divides the residents of the Burgas complex, where a solution to the parking problem has been sought for a long time. At the end of April, the Municipality of Burgas launched a public opinion survey with an online questionnaire, offering four locations for the construction of multi-story parking lots. The results were announced a month ago, showing that over 95% of people agree with the proposal, with the greatest approval for Location 1: between Debelt Street and Tsar Kaloyan Street, Lyuben Karavelov Street, and Vasil Levski Street, and Location 3: between Tsar Kaloyan Street and Ivaylo Street, Kliment Ohridski Street, and Tsarigradska Street.
The latter site currently houses the Krasnodar Market, which is visited by hundreds of city residents every day.
A petition has been submitted specifically against this location, in which citizens urge the Municipality of Burgas to reconsider its decision and take their opinion into account. In their letter, the citizens admit that they are not thoroughly familiar with the project, as representatives of the local government have not taken the time to talk to them. It is signed by 181 people and was collected within 3-4 days.
„We want clean air, greenery, and not more cars polluting our air! Burgas is already suffocating from construction and vehicles! With cars running around the clock on the parking floors, there will be much more noise and poisonous fumes than the current traffic. The blue zone around the market and our blocks almost completely absorbs the flow of customers with cars as well as our own cars.“
The letter also reminded people that construction of the site would take time, meaning that there would be no market for fresh produce and people would look for other means of supply.
The citizens reminded that European practice is to build multi-story car parkings on open spaces, not in densely populated areas like theirs. They argued that the market is a place for selling food products and should not be located near harmful vehicle emissions and dust.
They also proposed a new location – the Youth Cultural Center on Gladston Street – which they believe has better access from the surrounding streets. They suggested that the site for an underground parking facility beneath Borisova Garden should also be considered and examined.
The letter, along with the attached petition, will be reviewed by the relevant permanent committees of the Burgas Municipal Council at the end of August.
