The flood in Tsarevo caused the reaction of politicians and public figures, according to whom the disaster could have been avoided if preventive measures had been taken by the state and local authorities.
According to MP Dimitar Naydenov from „We continue the change-Democratic Bulgaria“, there is information from people from the area, according to whom, due to property interests, allegedly dry ravines were filled in, the consequences of which we see today. We publish his full comment unedited:
“A state of emergency has been declared in Tsarevo.
Cars and caravans are floating in the sea at the Arapya campsite. The population of the village of Kosti has been evacuated, and the village itself is under water.
The river near Sinemorets has overflowed and the village is without electricity.
For years, the state and local authorities have been oblivious to the state of the riverbeds, illegal logging, and according to people from the area, supposedly dry ravines have been filled in due to property interests, the consequences of which we see today.
A crisis headquarters has been organized on site. The Prime Minister will participate in the meeting.
The executive should take immediate measures to help the affected citizens. And the judiciary must establish whether there is a culpable failure to fulfill official duties by officials that led to these negative consequences, and hold them accountable.
We can’t afford to let things like this get swept under the rug any longer.”
Emil Peychev, a public figure from Tsarevo, also spoke on the subject. He also touched on the issue of flooded gullies, which he has addressed many times over the years. According to him, they were covered with a mass of earth by people close to the mayor Georgi Lapchev, which makes it impossible for the water to drain. We bring his publication to your attention without editorial intervention:
“Dear Friends and Fellow Citizens,
I would very much like to explain the disaster that befell Tsarevo with Nature.
But the truth is completely different.
The water that flooded us clearly showed what the twelve-year carelessness of Mayor Lapchev leads to.
For years I have been saying and showing that the gullies cannot be filled in because they were allegedly „dry“.
There was such a gully in the area of the Fire Station in Tsarevo, there was such a gully next to Angel Tsigularov’s property in the Industrial Zone. And because they covered them with earth mass and turned them into UPIs, now the water has nowhere to flow, flooding and sweeping away everything in its path.
There were similar „dry“ ravines in the region of „Arapya“ and „Nestinarka“. The tariqats around the mayor buried them and now the water has washed away everything there.
Regarding the fallen bridge between the old and the new town in Tsarevo, for those who do not know or have already forgotten, I will remind you that only about two months ago, repairs were made there, reducing the „passage“ under the bridge for unknown reasons. Then I signaled again to the competent authorities, but to no avail.
And do you remember how many times I sent signals about the dangerous condition of the ravine in the village of Kosti and demanded an inspection from the regional governor. I sent signals to the Municipality of Tsarevo, to the RIOSV, to the Regional Administration, to the MRRD. Then the mayor’s camp said that I was doing PR actions and creating sensations. I turned out to be right. Today the village of Kosti is flooded again.
However, as a result of my „sensations“, the state still provided BGN 1,198,170 for the same valley as targeted funds.
Unfortunately, in the most difficult way, Nature today showed us what the real result of the mayor’s incompetence is.
All the time I wondered why the people in power in Tsarevo didn’t see the obvious. Why do Lapchev and others refuse to take measures?
Well, apparently they didn’t care. The alush-verish was going well for them.
People, put an end to all this timelessness on October 29th.
The „Lapchev-Tsigularov“ model is now dangerous for everyone.
God bless Tsarevo municipality!”
Emil Peychev’s publication was also commented on by Atanas Rusev from the „Let’s Save Coral“ association. Here is what he wrote on the subject:
“I am sure that at this very moment the same thieves, led by the „main“ one, are contentedly rubbing their hands together and counting how many cents they will collect from the state for this cruel disaster. For them, it is the driving force behind everything. Nothing else.”
