Citizens are planning a protest against the construction of a photovoltaic plant near Sredets. It will be held at 10:00 a.m. on February 21 in front of the Courthouse in Burgas. The organizer is the public benefit association called „For clean nature- Dyulevo village“.
The Sredets Municipal Council has given consent to the construction of a photovoltaic plant in the lands of the villages of Dyulevo, Svetlina, Suhodol and Orlintsi with an area of 8 thousand acres.
The plant’s excessive proximity to populated areas has raised concerns among the local population. Their fears are that the construction of such a solar park will have a negative impact on nature, animals, water reservoirs and the health of the villagers.
Farmers and ranchers are also dissatisfied, as they fear that they will be left without pastures to feed their animals because the photovoltaic plant will be on pastures. Hunters and beekeepers are also against it.
Valentin Kirov, one of the organizers of the protest in Burgas, explained to Iskra.bg that for them photovoltaics can only be called „green energy“ for the time being.
„Coal is not burned. Sunlight is used. But from then on, these plants have about 40 years of life. The cells themselves are silicon, that is, they are non-degradable material. The glass that covers this cage is also made of a material that does not degrade in nature, and this is a global problem that will become a problem for our village as well,“, he pointed out. Then he added:
„The investors will disappear after a while, as it usually happens in Bulgaria, and this problem will remain.“
Kirov pointed out that the more important problem is that agricultural lands and pasture lands are being destroyed.
„Currently, some livestock breeders who are in the village are not allowed to expand their production. However, the presumption is that these lands should be used primarily for such purposes. The fraud is related to the claims that there are abandoned agricultural fertile lands. Not even close. These lands are even currently sown with crops,“, he added.
In Kirov’s words, everything has gone hidden so far so that the population does not understand what was coming and there would be no publicity. Because of this, a case has been filed in the Constitutional Court. According to him, all the requirements for the purpose of agricultural land, which will not be available for agriculture for 50 years, were violated.
„The other claim that is made in the municipal decision, which is not true, is that these people had 25% of the land. That is not true. They have them because of this very corrupt Municipal Council that sold the lands before so that they can have some ownership. They sold it again with unclear procedures,“, the organizer of the protest was adamant. Then he stressed:
„The whole case is riddled with corruption!“
