Burgas will welcome another summer with traffic jams and traffic problems, which infuriated thousands of drivers from all over the region and the country. The reason for their dissatisfaction is the repair of the road between the city and the district of „Sarafovo“, which is the connection to Pomorie, Nessebar, the resort „Sunny Beach“ and the entire Northern Black Sea coast.
On social media, people expressed bewilderment as to why the repair was started at the beginning of the summer season, when traffic on this stretch is already very busy, not in the fall. They recalled that traffic jams not only lead to slow movement, but also to air pollution and are prerequisites for accidents. The Municipality of Burgas explained that the state funding was received a few weeks ago, and the postponement of the repair works puts it at risk of being lost.
However, drivers are questioning whether the season was worth ruining to repair a section that could have been addressed at a later stage. A similar question was submitted by municipal councillor Mariyan Ivanov to Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, but it is still awaiting an answer.
Burgas citizen Stanislav Petkov wrote a post on the subject on Facebook. He recalled that there are repairs in many other key places in the city and described as strange the behavior of those directly affected, who do not want to organize any protests.

For days, I have been puzzled as to who, how and how easily orders the repairs in the city. I have come to the conclusion that neither the elections nor the government are to blame, but all the carefree „ladybugs“ installed at its various institutions in the city and the country. These are absolute incompetents people, dear friends! While we are wondering what is going on, one is shouting „GERB is to blame“, the other is claiming “ “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria” is to blame!“, some people ordering or committing a mockery on the citizens, are shaking their legs in an air-conditioned office with impunity!
It is absurd not to foresee that at the height of the season, or whenever during the year, the closure of the road from Sarafovo will lead to cataclysm. At the same time, we also have „Industrialna“ being repaired (2 years), a closed bypass through Lukoil and D. Ezerovo, partially closed „Gladstone“, partially closed „Yanko Komitov“ (as of today), many fully closed streets in „Vazrazhdane“ and hundreds more in super bad condition. This is not from yesterday, but from years!
Having traffic controllers every morning at key intersections because of traffic is ridiculous in a city where we have „Integrated Public Transport“ but can’t set up traffic lights in a smart way.
And that’s not the strangest thing, because we’ve been used to being mocked like this for years. The strange thing is that, at the moment of the announcement of the repair of a key thoroughfare in the season, important for everyone in the region, there are no protests from the professions of the main people involved in the traffic – transport companies, taxi companies, traders, couriers, tour operators. They should be joined by all of us who are affected by what is happening on many levels – dirty air, noise, time, money and most of all risk to our lives. Because the first crashes are already a fact.
So, will we put up with this farce or…”
It is expected that with the entry into the active summer season in July, the traffic jams not only on the road to Sarafovo, but also in the whole Burgas will become even more serious. Reports of traffic problems are spreading daily from the roundabout at the entrance to the city from Sofia, as well as on the central boulevards.
Citizens of Burgas blame the „GERB-MRF“ management model for this, as according to them, it is not the first time that it puts the interests of the citizens in the background, which in turn leads to similar problems. Perhaps, the most dissatisfied are the hotel owners, who also called for the renovation decision to be reconsidered. At this stage, however, they have not prepared any protest actions.
