At least 10 border guards have been involved in refugee-trafficking schemes. This was revealed by the Acting Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev to Plovdiv journalists.

The officers in question worked at various territorial subdivisions of the „Border Police“ on the Turkish border. According to Demerdzhiev, with the growth of the migrant pressure, the processes for attracting policemen to the trafficking scheme have intensified.

„Internal Security“ clarified the matter, with the interaction with the state prosecution. The responsible minister stated that he will proceed with the transfer of personnel for whom there is insufficient evidence that they are involved in the schemes, but there is convincing data.

The Minister of the Interior also made a comment about the inspections, which are related to illegal logging near Karlovo and which may be related to the flooding in the area.

According to him, next week he and his agrarian colleague will inspect and visit other regions for which there is similar data. The minister added that the documents on how it is mined and whether it is permitted by law will also be checked on the spot.

It is planned that tomorrow, after the government meeting, the mayor of Karlovo Municipality and the Plovdiv regional governor will report on the situation. Demerdzhiev added that the goal is for each minister to offer assistance to the victims according to their capabilities. The meeting of the Committee on Disasters and Accidents has been postponed by a week to include this area.
