The Witness Protection Bureau will be transferred to the Ministry of Justice. This proposal was adopted at second reading by the MPs from the Legal Affairs Committee.
At the moment, the deputies are considering the second item on the agenda. It includes the topic that became the subject of a serious discussion in the public space, namely the closure of special courts and special prosecutor’s offices.
The activities of the Bureau of Protection have a specific character. These include personal physical security, prior protection, surveillance and protection of endangered and/or protected persons, security of prosecutors and investigators.
The provision of assistance as psychological assistance to protected and / or endangered persons, as well as the activity of international cooperation, plus information-analytical one, are also obligations that fall within the competences of the Bureau.
16 are the protected persons in 9 cases, which were secured for the first half of 2021. For half of them, security measures were applied on the territory of the country, and the rest – within other countries.
For the past 2020, the action of the Protection Program in one case with four protected persons has ended. From January to June this year – 1 case with two protected persons.
