The prosecutor’s office revealed information about the speculation in Burgas yesterday, during which a young man connected with terrorist activity was detained. It turns out that
there was an operation not only in the seaside town, but also in Vratsa. The counter-terrorist operation of the Directorate General for the Fight against Organised Crime and State agency for National Security was under the leadership of the Specialised Prosecutor’s Office.
Searches were carried out at addresses in Burgas, from where material evidence relevant to the subject of the investigation was seized. As witnesses, 20 persons were questioned, 9 of them before a judge. There were 10 recognitions.
An adult has been brought to criminal responsibility for a crime under Art. 108a, para. 6 of the Penal Code – participation of a Bulgarian citizen in a terrorist crime abroad. A prosecutor’s order ordered the defendants to be detained for up to 72 hours. The Specialised Prosecutor’s Office is about to submit to the Specialized Criminal Court a request for taking a measure of restraint „Detention in custody“.
The evidence gathered so far shows that since 2015 he has traveled several times from Bulgaria to Syria, where he has participated directly in armed actions in the ranks of various jihadist terrorist groups.
It has been established that the person’s father is still the leader of one of these groups and it was he who radicalised him and attracted him to terrorist activities in Syria.
So far, there is no evidence that the Bulgarian prosecuted has participated in the preparation of terrorist attacks in Bulgaria.
