Road expert Diana Rusinova called on the entire Management Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) to resign after a 12-year-old child died in a serious accident in the area of Humata between Pleven and Lukovit on the first-class road Byala-Botevgrad. She wrote on the social network:

“To the Chairman of the RIA Board,

I am Diana Rusinova, chairwoman of the NGO “European Center for Transport Policies”. Today I am writing to you not just as someone committed to the problems on our roads, but as someone disgusted to the bottom of my soul by your callousness.

A child of 12 died. Swept away by a semi-trailer on a road that you personally had been warned about. Twice this summer we alerted you to hazards on the I-3 roadway between Radomirci and Telish – potholes, bumps, shoddy repairs, lack of adequate maintenance.

Both times you replied that you would replace the markings. Markings?! Who are you lying to? Yourself? Us? The parents who are now burying their child?

The marking wasn’t fixed when I visited the site last night either. That child could have been alive. But it isn’t. Because you didn’t do your job.

Look at this picture (I have the parents’ permission to show it publicly). This is the result of your carelessness. From your incompetence. From your arrogance.

Aren’t you ashamed! Don’t you feel guilty?!

Or are you used to blood on the roads? With the hundreds of corpses a year?

I demand your immediate resignation. For the resignation of the entire Board of the RIA. This time the blame is yours. And this time there will be consequences.”
