The main reason for not convening the Consultative Council for National Security (CCNS) is the upcoming local elections on 29 October.
This became clear from the words of Former Minister of Defence and Secretary for Security and Defence of the President Dimitar Stoyanov. He added that Rumen Radev had fears that the presidential institution would become an arena for pre-election party talk.
„A large number of MPs are also candidates for mayors, which affects their speech.“
According to Stoyanov, the same scenario is playing out in the National Assembly, where an extraordinary Conference of Presidents will be held today, and the vote of no confidence will also be voted on.
Stoyanov also pointed out that at the meetings with the President, qualified information is shared, which then individual political leaders presume to export as „yellow newspapers“ to the television studios. He urged them to familiarize themselves with the Qualified Information Act and then they would be invited to such meetings.
According to him, there is currently no direct threat to Bulgaria’s national security, but every conflict carries its own risks.
