The police department shared more details surrounding the car incident in which the popular Bulgarian journalist Milen Tsvetkov was killed. Chief commissioner of Sofia Metropolitan Directorate of Interior, Georgi Hadzhiev, commented:
“Around 18:00 there was a 122 call reporting a car accident. An “Audi Q7” driving in direction from “Henrik Ibsen” street towards “Cherni Vruh” boulevard crashed into a stopped at a red light “Subaru Forester” SUV”.
“The hit SUV was thrown about twenty meters into the junction. The driver of the “Subaru Forester” fell into clinical death. He still had a pulse when the medics from the Emergency Medical Center took him to the hospital of “Pirogov” where he eventually died. Yes, I can confirm that the casualty was the journalist Milen Tsvetkov – an extraordinary professional. My deepest condolences to his family.”
Chief commissioner Hadzhiev confirmed that the 22-years-old driver, who crashed into Tsvetkov’s SUV, was under the influence of drugs.
“A followed up “Drugtest 5000” determined that the driver was under the influence of cannabis and amphetamine. Pre-trial proceedings under Article 343, para. 3 have been initiated for death caused by driving under the influence which is punishable by law with 3 to 15 years imprisonment. „
The young adult had acquired his driving license in 2016 and has a single traffic violation which according to Chief commissioner was minor.
“There was a girl passenger in the car. The investigation so far indicates no attempt of breaking was made”.
According to unconfirmed information by “PIK” media, the driver of the “Audi” was Kristian Nikolov and the luxury SUV is property of the wine distribution company “Desislava Pesheva-Commerce”. The company owner – Desislava Krumova Pesheva, is a partner of Minyu Stajkov in “Sis Industries”, “Topaz production”, and “Vinprom Karnobat”.
Pesehva is a partner with the father of the driver – Asen Nikolov, in the company “AS Optimus”. They have a partnership in eight more companies.
In a YouTube video, the same SUV is caught crossing a red light about 3 months ago. The video was taken at the junction of “Bulgaria” boulevard and “Cherni vruh”.
