Residents of the Rhodope villages of Vodni Pad, Kesten, Zhdrebovo and Trigrad said they had been in captivity for 13 days. They say that food, medicine, petrol and fodder for the animals – they carry everything by hand. We remind you that the only road to them through the Trigrad Gorge was lost in the rains on December 11.
The mayor of Trigrad Emil Gogushev commented that there are people who are trying to pass through the landslide, but it is too dangerous. According to him, the slope of the rest of the road section is towards the river, which in turn is very lush. Despite the signal from the Municipality that the passage is prohibited, people’s patience is beginning to run out.
The mayor warned of another danger, especially in front of the Devil’s Throat cave near the natural tunnel – large icicles are hanging. Some reach up to 4 meters in length. They are very heavy and would break the roof of a car.
The victims formed an Initiative Committee „For the Rescue of Trigrad“. They demand urgent help and the state should start repairing the collapsed road as soon as possible, and their petition was supported by more than 2,000 people.
Trigrad is a year-round tourist destination, and now almost all reservations have been cancelled. The others, who have decided to celebrate the holidays in the village, are now wondering how to get there.
Among the demands are those for compensations for business and assistance to those whose employers have ceased operations due to the disaster.
At the same time, lawyer Vanya Miteva sent a letter to President Rumen Radev. Through it, he informs him about the difficult situation – how people cannot go to the hospital or to their jobs in the surrounding settlements, children can not go to school, and shops cannot be supplied with products. Miteva herself works in the capital, but cannot reach her job
A few days ago, military and experts inspected the road to see if a temporary bridge could be built. However, they rejected this possibility because the terrain is difficult and there is no way to build such a bridge.
