Information on the indexation of retirees’ payments is still at the level of fairy tales. In order for it to become a reality, it must be reflected in the budgets – of the National Social Security Institute and in the state budget, explained the former Minister of Social Affairs Ivan Neykov. According to him, nearly half of the funds for pensions come from the national budget, not from social security. The expert believes that one of the very incorrect measures, which has been proposed for 3 years, is the administrative increase of the minimum retirees’ payments.

When a retirees’ payment is not enough to live normally, he should be helped, Neykov is categorical. According to him, however, this should not be done by touching the insurance model – this makes the motivation of people to work and insure meaningless.

The aid for the pensioners is not going in the right way, Neykov said. His opinion is shared by the former Deputy Minister of Finance Georgi Kadiev. He called:

„Help through social assistance to those in need, not everyone.“

According to him, the same happens with child benefits – everyone will receive whether they need it or not. He recalled the latest data, according to which more than 120 thousand people receive a salary of over BGN 6,000 and asked if they need these BGN 40.

„I think help is help when it is targeted and targeted at specific people.“

Modernizing payments for retirees is an old pain, Neykov said. He revealed that the funds will come from the loans taken.

„The truth is that elections are bought with budget money – pensioners are bought, parents of children are bought, but this is false justice, which in no way helps this society.“

Neykov added that all the time he has the feeling that there are two Bulgarians – one of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, and the other – of 7 million Bulgarians.
